So as Gary and Tony have fucked everything up and delayed their game and I fucked everything up by losing to my nemesis I have rolled the other games played into this post. How exciting for everyone.
Leo V Ben – Crucible of Battle/Sites of Power/Vox Static.
The character focussed Primary and the eternal movement shenanigans of the GK makes this a tough game for Leo but by golly did he give it a good go.
Leo’s CSM murdered pretty much everything on the table, by the end of the game, but GK doing GK things meant that he got outscored. I think this is Leo’s highest scoring game so it is great to see that he is making inroads to more competitive outcomes!
My prediction was a 90-40 to Ben so I was mostly correct but well done to Leo for me underestimating you.
Andy v Brett – Crucible/Sites/Vox
Same mission as above and I feel like both of these rascals teched into each other a little here – Redeemer, Infernus and Whirlwind from Andy and 9 Zoanthropes from Brett.
Brett was looking for his first win and had earlier exclaimed “If I lose this I am going full carpet” while acquiring 20 more Gargoyles and fuck knows how many more Gaunts. The rest of you in the Casual League may be spared the carpet for a while yet as Brett remembered his rules and pulled off the win. This is what Brett had to say, plus some cool pictures.
“The decisive turn was T2 when I drew “Bring it Down”. I had deployed aggressively with my neurolictor which meant Andy’s gladiator lancer, impulsor transport and land raider redeemer were all within her 12″ debiff range. Recognizing the opportunity I triggered a targeted battleshock against the lancer, my preferred target. It passed, so I thought “fuck it, not going to get a better opportunity than this” and threw shadow in the warp at him.
Thankfully the redeemer failed battle shock and became my defacto BID target.
9 zoanthropes came in from strategic reserves, and with help of an exocrine giving them reroll 1s to hit, took out the redeemer, scoring BID for 5pts.
Using lone op neurolictors and the death leaper against Andy’s shooting-heavy list meant it took him 3 turns to contest the center.
Having a strong lead early on, Andy made a valiant comeback, taking out a Hive Tyrant, Norn Emissary and Death Leaper by turn 4. Light on bodies, the Space Marines began to claw back control towards the end of the game.
But the damage was done. His shiny blue vehicles were scrap metal and there just wasn’t enough time to recover the points.
A great game that could have gone either way. Andy won’t underestimate zoanthropes again!”
Dave V Joel – Search Destroy/The Ritual/Chilling Rain
The mad mission with infinite Primary obj’s with two Mortation’s going at each other.
Lots of stinky boys doing stinky things to each other here with the Morty showdown doing in Dave’s favour 100-51 VPs.
From Dave – “My Morty eventually popped his Morty who exploded and dealt 6mw to blightlords, a blightspawn, other Morty and a hellbrute” Which sounds simply wonderful.
Luke V Phil – Dawn of War/Scorched Earth/Hidden Supplies
Does anyone know what the Space Dwarves motivation is or do they just like killing things with big guns, ideally big things? I certainly don’t but they managed to do some big killing here.
I believe Phil may have underestimated the output Votann can achieve as both Forgefiends and his Havocs started the game in view of the opposing gunline. This led to a rather unpleasant turn 1 of murdering all the aforementioned Chaos worshippers.
Without the Forgefiends Phil was facing an absurdly steep uphill battle and Luke punished the mistake with an ice cold attitude. He probably laughed in lovely Phil’s face he is that dastardly.
Comfortable win for LoV and Luke 95-49 where I predicted a closer game of 70-50. Lesson for everyone is hide your damage dealers turn 1.
