It begins. The three month slog through the best and bravest Portsmouth has to offer to crown the undisputed champion. Plus Harry.

Without further ado I will have a quick look at the fixtures, who I think will win it and why, with a quick summary of the lists involved.

Mission 1 is Hammer & Anvil//Purge the Foe//Targets of Opportunity. This means deploying across the width, 4VP for 1 and 4VP for more Obj, 4 VP for killing a unit and 4VP for killing more. Additionally both players are running with 3 secondaries.

Chris (Mechanised Guard) V Leo (Shooty Slaaneshi CSM)

Champion vs Wooden Spoon seems like a no brainer but Chris is bringing a mad all hull list (except for Gaunts Ghost and Leontus) including a Banesword and two Rogal Dorns. It means its super durable and pretty damn shooty but its secondary scoring capability can be pretty limited. This mission allowing three secondaries helps alleviate that quite so it could work nicely in Chris’ favour.

On the other hand Leo is bringing 3 Forgefiends and 3 units of lascannon Havocs. All of this will be sustained on 5s so its capable of putting out a filthy amount of damage in the shooting phase without any single shot being the “big one” for a Dorn to shut off. Add to that some nicely dangerous Chosen and Noise Marines with Fabius Bile and Lucius as well as Raptors and 2 X Warp Talons means this list can kill in both phases with mobility and good scoring capability.

If I had to call it I would say Chris wins 80-40

Rob (Fuck loads of Admech) V Sam (Infantry Custodes)

Let’s start with the basics – Rob is a better player than me so I go in expecting to lose against him however I am so thankful I am running into Admech rather than Tau that is has filled me with all sorts of unrealistic dreams. Since moving to the all infantry list I have really felt an improvement in the Custodes game as it feels like it has redundancies that the Caladius one didn’t. The additional 100/120 points from the Jan dataslate makes a surprisingly big difference.

He does however have a bazillion units for scoring that I won’t want to get to and should comfortably max secondaries against me. However the primary being killing focussed it right up my ally and favours the golden boys quite a lot.

I think it will be a close one to be honest but the Breacher Squad with anti inf 2+, lethals and sustained on its bigger gun makes me shed a singular auramite tear.

I will go bold and back myself to win 90-80.

Harry (Tsons) vs Gary (all the wardogs)

The wardogs list is savage for any who witness it but it is winnable. Tsons have enough access to dev wounds and general shooty amount that they can put a hefty dent into the doggies but I am not sure if it will be quick enough before the Tsons start to degrade and lose their potency. Plus Gary is pretty good even if he is cunt.

Gary win 80-50

Tony (bodies heavy Necrons) vs Ben (GK – Paladin big block, smaller smitey Termies)

Tony is still convinced the Night Scythe is good so each player who disabuses him of this notion earns a gold star. He does however have a fuckload of resurrecting infantry bodies, swarms and destroyers which I think will hamper the teleporting shenanigans of the Grey Knights. I don’t think this Primary is particularly good for GK either so it will be an uphill struggle here. Not impossible but it’s a tough matchup.

Tony win 90-60
