Who do we have here then? 15 of our 18 combatants have willingly submitted to interrogation at the hands of the Ordo Hereticus. Secrets have been revealed, hubris runs unchecked and two people are cunts who didn’t respond. This is in no particular order.

GARY

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

As a Warhammer boomer I have fond memories of playing 2nd edition and lobbing vortex grenades at my Brothers models. I then moved onto GW’s skirmish games like Blood Bowl and Necromunda. I didn’t get back into 40K until 9th edition decades later.

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?

Chaos Knights is basically all I have. I’ve tried other armies for 40K but I just love the simplicity of moving around a handful of single models. CK is a pure stat check army, you can either deal with the high toughness and melt me off the table in a couple or turns or you can’t and I’ll flood the mid-board with Wardogs.

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

My theme is go fuck yourself.

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?

1st place. Anything less would be a huge disappointment considering the calibre of other players in the league. That’s not to say I’m a great tactical genius but most of these lads would struggle to win a game of Connect 4.

BRETT

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?New player here! Started in 10th.Why did you choose the faction you did for the league? The models were going cheap and Tyranids offered me a way to learn a more balanced version of the game when compared to Grey Knights which, despite being fun to play, lean very heavily on a small number of mechanics. Tyranids also look pretty sick and you can get away with some pretty bonkers color schemes.

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

My lists are going to be largely about trying new things and getting a feel for what Tyranids can achieve. I’ll probably try some loopy things and see what sticks. What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?I’m hoping to get in the top 3, but I expect it will be a struggle. This league doesn’t seem as casual as it first appears.

HARRY

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

Technically it 4th ed but I was like like a child then so I don’t really count it, when I got back into the hobby just before COVID it was 8th edition! GW swindled me into buying the starter set for the game and being a noob I didn’t realise 9th was out until it was too late! But we’ve moved on from then!

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?

Mainly because I wanted to challenge myself! The last league I managed mid table with Ultramarines and I was happy I made a competitive list work with UMs and I am going.to do the same with the Thousand sons!… Plus wizards!

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

I’ve done some research on competitive lists and they all look sick! Sadly I don’t own multiple copies of a forge fiend of enlightend Tzangors however, what I do have it’s rubric marines, lots and lots of flamer rubrics.

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?

Naturally first because I’m a hungry meta chaser!! Nah being honest I’d like to finish mid table or even come in the Top 3 having said that I’ll go full balls to the wall to win!

RICHARD

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

3d edition. Saim-hann was the first 40k army I saw and always wanted to play them. Now I get to for the league

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?

I’ve always wanted to play them and finally got them painted, perfect for my first ever 40k league

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

Of course! It’s me full Saim-hann, so jet bikes and hover tanks

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?

Top 5. Play style – fast and aggressive.

BEN J

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

I painted 3rd edition but didn’t start playing until 10th.

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?

Chose Ultramarines because they were easier than necrons to build from the starter kit.

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

Don’t really follow any themes.

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?

For my 1st 2k league I would like to win at least 1 game

CHRIS

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

3rd edition.

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?

Because tanks is the best way to fight a war.

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

Tanky.

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?

4th this time. (Ed. note – bollocks!)

BEN

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

2nd Edition Eldar.

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?

It was either that or an army I don’t know how to play. (ed. note – turns out everything he bought was shit hahaha).

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

League choice is fairly competitive but generally I prefer fluffy or historically accurate lists

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?

Above Harry

JAMES

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

2nd edition.

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?

Because I like Ancient Greek history and space marines.

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

A fluffy approach to Minotaurs: all the toys and a belligerent approach to all comers.

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?

69 – the best possible position.

DAVID

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

2nd edition, I played whatever I could get my grubby glued together povo hands on. The rules made as much sense as the Republican party.

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?

I love a faction in which an Irish protest is a lore appropriate tactic – play the man not the game.

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

Mortarion has been painted and must be played.

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?

Middle of the pack.

ANDY

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

I started playing warhammer alllllllll the way back in the tail end of 3rd/beginning of 4th. But I got serious in 5th and played that every week for several years. I took a break for 6th, came back for 7th with a Space Wolf army and then had 6 years out before coming back again in 9th – big shock that was with the new Primaris range being released in 8th! I’d never seen tactical marines shot off the board so fast!

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?I chose to play Ultramarines as they are near and dear to my heart. They were the first army I collected, and even when I’m working on other armies like T’au or Orks I invariably have an ultramarines character or squad on the side that I’m working on. Graham Macneils Urial Ventris chronicles really captured my interest in the Ultramarines and ever since then they’ve always been the army I go back to, I’ve not lost interest in them as a faction in the same way as I have with other armies in the past. Also the full spread pictures from the 3rd edition codex and rulebooks left a lasting impact on me (see attached).

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

Yes and no. All my Ultramarines are based in my interpretation of what the rural woodlands/meadows of Pavonis would look like. Thinking especially of the De Valtos family estate where Uriel ambushed a T’au devilfish in Courage and Honour. But then my army follows the second company scheme not the fourth so bit of a discrepancy there! The list itself is really going to be what I feel like fielding and what works on the table. My second army was guard and I have always been a treadhead so there’s a high degree of probability that tech marines and tanks will come out in force!

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?

I would be happy to place in the top 5. I do want to do well, and I do have a competitive streak, but I also want to play a good game with the other players and have fun. For me an amicable game, with some funny moments but also where both opponents give it they’re all is my ideal game. I enjoy it when two armies go hammer and tongs at each other, instead of getting wiped out by an alpha strike on turn 1 or 2.

LUKE

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

10th.

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?

Dwarves are cool man, angry short dudes running at you.

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

No Theme just rule of cool baby.

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?I’d rather win every game, but I think I’ll be happy top 3.

KARL

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

I can’t remember the edition I first owned, but they were metal mostly, lol the first I played properly was 10th edition.

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?

I picked the orks1) Because come on, the orks are awesomeAnd 2) the guy i bought them from had already painted them, hahaha

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

Full beast snagga boys, they are fast, fun, and awesome.

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?

Still hunting for the coveted wooden Spoon. I lost out last time as somehow I was winning games, hahaha.

JOEL

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

My first Warhammer was the 2nd edition starter models from a car boot sale, never played the game with them.

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?

I chose Death Guard because they have the best looking models and painting them is a lot of fun. Also easy to cover up any mistakes.

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

The theme I am following with my list is

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?

I would honestly just be happy to finish each game with my 5th turn under my belt.

TONY

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

Yes, I own a copy of rogue trader, but it is a reprint.

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?

Because it was mostly painted and not Ultramarines.

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

I don’t know it it’s a theme but it’s mostly starter set minis or came with the partworks magazine.

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?

Any position because Necrons are immortal and will eventually win due to entropy. So long as it’s above Gary. Even better if it’s above Gary and he beats me 1 on 1.

LEO

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

10th.

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?

Chaos- because they are as bad arse as me.

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

Just trying to win a game!

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?

Just want to win a game! Haha.

SAM

What was the first edition of 40k you owned/played?

I originally owned the 3rd edition release box (the land speeder held a special place in my heart) but I only kinda played a mate and I don’t think we really knew what we were doing. Didn’t get back into it until tail end of 9th with ma bois Harry and Chris.

Why did you choose the faction you did for the league?

Custodes because I learned playing the mission can be fun post dataslate. Real reason it because I am better with them than I am daemons and I want to win.

Is there any theme you are following with your lists?

ALL BOIS ALL OF THE TIME…..plus some girls.

What position would you be happy with by the end of the league?

Honestly I want to win it but think I will struggle into Gary’s doggies and Tony’s necrons. Minimum second place is the aim but honestly if I just murder someone and lose on points I am usually just as happy.ROBI’m good dude, I have no theme and I picked admech in a panic lolPHILIPUnable to locate Philip. Sending extraction team.
