This week we have three games to have a little chat about and one of them is our first draw – how extraordinarily exciting for everyone involved!
OK so this week has thrown off my accuracy meter by some margin, and it was all going so mediocre!
Luke V Dave – Votann/DG – 100-44
Lets get the big boy out of the way first as I know Luke craves the recognition and adoration he will no doubt have achieved with this, potentially title grabbing, victory.
This was Purge, so points rewarded for killing, and I thought the PBC’s would crack the sturdy Dwarven shells but I was woefully incorrect. Land Fortresses did there thing and murderised the DG bunker with sweet D3 Sustained on 4s. Absolute filth and I don’t approve.
When I went over to have a look at the game both gentlemen were looking red and sweaty and considering both armies mostly consist of pointing and something and it dying I can only assume there was some under the table hand stuff going on.
This hasn’t quite given Luke the title but it is damn close – by my calculation Luke would have to lose 2 of his 3 last games and Dave to win his last one. Not impossible but it might be a near perfect debut for the Votann. Let’s not discount Phil for the running either – win his three games and the others lose (one of his matches is Luke) and he might quietly slide into first.
I predicted a narrow win for Dave on this one and I was grossly incorrect. I apologise to Luke wholeheartedly.
Phil V Brett – Daemons/Nids – 83-33
Mr Curry notches his third win out of four this week, bouncing back from the drubbing from Luke’s tiny man things, giving Brett’s Xenos filth an equally good thumping.
Bringing the big Norn down to 1 wound turn 1 was always going to hurt, and I think might have mentally wounded Brett to extent she will be shelved for a while. Doesn’t sound like the Zoanthrope death squad did its business either, and that is the main hammer unit.
Another confident run out for the Keeper of Secrets/Forgefiend double team so well done Phil.
I also backed Brett here and I believe personal feelings (we are very much in love) got in the way. I won’t let him betray me again.
Simon V Ben – Wolves/Ultras – 77-77
Our first draw from either this seasons leagues or last – congratulations on that dubious honour boys!
The fact that it was talked out doesn’t take that away from you, not one bit. You both failed, together.
I wandered over to have a looksie (not to take a break from mild panic that Leo was shooting most of my army off the board) around end of T2 and Ben was mostly locked in his deployment zone and Simon seemed to have lost a magnificent amount of wolfy bois but he looked me in the eyes and said “it’s about the points” and by god I have never been harder in my life.
Turn 3 Simon had double the VP of Ben but without the materiel to continue contesting the fact that this was Vital Ground meant Ben could catch up with a burst on the last two rounds bringing us to the fabled draw.
