Casual Week 3 Roundup

Just a couple of matches this week and both written by the players – one is slightly more detailed than the other because I am impatient.

Also I have decided to start including more images and they are all going to be AI sourced with bad prompts.

Brett V Dave – Nids/DG

Brett: “Dave brought a smart list which combined indirect fire, tough infantry and lots of nurglings to screen and infiltrate.

Knowing I couldn’t address Plagueburst crawlers head-on, I thought I might try and utilise the “Vanguard” detachment; reserves and lone-op to avoid dying to indirect damage in the early turns of the game.

Losing first turn, and a few key advances in T1 and T2, meant I gave up a large portion of NML territory early.

This, combined with Dave’s impeccable screening, kept me in my deployment zone too long and severely limited my reserve deployments.

While I was able to wrangle Tyranid battle-line prowess to steal the objective for a giant swing at the end of the game, it just wasn’t enough considering the dominance Dave had set up early.”

Dave: “So tried the 3 bloat drone archetype alongside my core of blightlords, death shroud and morty’s bullshit bubble.

Going first was huge. I was able to push my deathshroud up on the flank and into cover. They tanked a huge exocrine onslaught and proceeded to cause frustration throughout the game. MVP goes to the bloat drone who charged two exocrines, bringing most of the zoanthropes in contagion range (I went with -1 BS/WS). However the biggest effect was delivered by my crawlers, which reduced the skulking biovore to paste. This combined with some judicious nurgling / drone screening meant Brett was locked out from scoring secondaries for most of the game (he went fixed – BEL & Deploy).

The score doesn’t provide an indicator of how close this match felt, Brett played really well and I couldn’t afford to drop a ball.  I went ultra aggressive with morty and the crawlers, taking the centre space and using more nurglings to box in Bretts horde and make the charges harder.

Blightlords did great work again, weathering an armys worth of fire to hold an objective and take out a genestealer block. If I’d gone second and Brett had chosen tactical, I think this could have been a very different game.

My favourite moment was when a lictor came out of the shadows to Nom my LoV. He rolled hot and the LoV failed all his saves, probably distracted by diligently spying out targets and blocking off a corner of the board from Bretts reinforcements. The LoV was pulled through the building floor leaving only a severed power fist behind.”

Phil V Ben – CSM/Ultras

Phil “Got turn 1 so obliterated all of Ben’s tanks in a single turn”

Ben “Some very good dice rolls from Phillip and some very poor rolls from me.”
