We have four games to look at this week with Richard, Andy Brett playing a double each to keep things going as a decent pace.
James V Brett – 80-35 – Hammer and Anvil/Vital/Supply Lines
The Minotaurs come out to brawl with the gibbering hordes and with only two primary to contend for I think this favours the marines a little. James brings a LR Redeemer, Aggressors, Hellblasters, 3 Redemptors and 2 Vindicators – sounds crap into Tyrannids right??? In a shock on no one (even with James heroically forgetting Oath of Moment is a thing for 3 turns) this list did very nasty things to Brett’s gribbly boys. The Redeemer offering great overwatch threat, triple redemptor being a thing most people don’t love coming at them alongside standard aggressor and hellblaster murderyness makes this a very aggressive list – I love to see it.
Brett now 0-2 means I expect him to throw $500 at the chinaman and bring a million exocrines, haruspexes and gargoyles for the rest of the league.
Luke V Andy – 100-23 – Sweeping Eng/Take and Hold/Sweep Clear
Both Andy and Luke have provided their own write up of the game so over to them:
Andy –
‘Battle of the Delutian suburbs’
Well, what a game this turned out to be!
After deployment Luke won the roll off for who goes first. The game started with a general advance on the part of the Votann, with that damned sagittar and advancing up my left flank. With those amiable little Brokhyr Thunderkyn casually strolling out of the ruins and into line of sight of two of my Redemptors. The Hekaton Landfortresses moved up the right flank towards the objective held by the heavy intercessor squad.
Top of T1 shooting was blitzing for Luke. His Brokhr Thunderkyn split fired and deleted, utterly out of existence not one but two of my Redemptors! (2/5 of my total dreadnought strength). I cannot tell you how pleased I was that 170 points of a unit could delete 420pts of mine. Clearly the T’au Auxiliaries are overpowered…
Turn 1 for me was, understandably, a bit of a flop. I brought in another tech marine Ballistus and Redemptor that I had been saving in strategic reserves, and they came on in my deployment zone. I proceeded to level 2 ballistus, a hellblasters squad my last Redemptor and my predator annihilator on his Thunderkyn and supporting Hernkyn Pioneers – devastating them utterly. I was still boxed into my deployment by the end of the turn though.
Top of T2 proceeded very much like Turn 1 had. I lost track of what I lost in that turn. It was a lot.
Bottom of T2 I did some sneaky sniper shenanigans and redeployed my scouts to strat reserves as I had noticed Luke had left his home objective dangerously unsecured and I had drawn ‘capture enemy outpost’.
Top of T3 I had a scout squad in strat reserves and an apothecary left…
Bottom of turn 3 I enacted my master plan and deployed my scouts onto Luke’s home objective, scoring me a sweet 8pts and making them my MVP’s of the match.
Top of T4 my brave scouts made the executive decision to call down an exterminatus – thus wining me the game!
All in all a great game, Luke’s list was a well designed killing machine and mine is going to be getting a redesign I think!
Most memorable qoute: ‘I don’t really need to do much else to be honest – because I already hold the objectives I don’t need to not hold them’ – Luke, turn 3
Luke –
The game v Andy was one of the two games I was worried about as big scary dreads are well… big and scary!I have to admit, I got extremely lucky during the game with me getting first turn 1 and managed to kill 2 redemptors with 1 unit which is honestly a ridiculous feat in itself which set the course of the game. Despite the set back, Andy was laughing and smiling throughout the entire thing! He’s an incredibly good sport and admitted that he knew it was revenge for a game we had a while back where he did the same thing to me turn 1.Clearly deserves the good sport trophy he won last league and would happily play him again
Andy V Ben – 47 – 37 – Search Destroy/The Ritual/Chilling Rain
Clearly aiming for the lowest combined score of the league, and likely succeeding, the Smurfs clashed in an argument over who had the bluest armour.5 full turns of the Ultra’s arguing who had the most Codex Astartes appropriate force, discussing the governance of 500 worlds and generally forcing their values onto other legions. All very exciting stuff.Ben’s first game in our league format and a perfect introduction by last season’s best sport.
You might be able to tell I don’t know much about this game…
David V Richard – 95-30 – Hammer and Anvil/Vital/Supply
Our local meta chasing hero, Richard, came into this game everyone’s favourite (bet365 had him at 3/11) and woe betide anyone who knocks him from his 1 victory pedestal.Up steps David, another new entry for this season’s league, with Mortarion and all the T3 munching indirect fire a man could ask for.Local observers close to the front lines reported back a steady stream of curses, getting louder as the game went on from the Aeldari player. Which I am to understand amused all parties except Richard. In a post match interview Richard lay firm blame at the feet of his dice and expressed concern that his rage was not a good introduction to David. Don’t we all love a contrite Aeldari player? David said Richard was fun to utterly annihilate and still enjoyed the game plenty so everyone left happy.
Brett v Richard – 67-100 – Hammer and Anvil/Purge/Targets
Richard and Brett’s opening game of the league – both studying hard their opponent’s weaknesses pre game. Richard goes in with the advantage of playing Nids for a long old time (53+ years) and Brett less than a month. With excuses made Richard surprised Brett with the classic Wraithguard shoot back mechanic to finish the clawed menace off. Something Brett won’t forget again
Please remember to send me some details of your games to help me expand your reports, pictures welcome. If you want to write your own roundup you are absolutely welcome to do it.
