Andy(Ultras) V Brett(Nids) – Crucible/Sites/Vox

An interesting mission, as it values having durable characters to double your primary score, and if there is something Tyranids are known for, it is having lots of durable characters…

Not only that, but Andy’s Smurf army has, so far, been filled with Dreads and Vehicles – another thing Tyranids excel at murdering…

So, aside from the fact that Andy enters this with an overwhelming advantage, what can we expect to happen?

Brett’s Nids will likely have a lot of bodies and the ability to score tons of secondary. The Marines probably won’t have a ton of secondary scoring, so some advantage for Brett there. If the Marines can chew through the many OC bodies (and they likely will), they will dominate on primary.

Both Nids and Marines are fully Codex’d armies, so there is a lot of variety they can bring to the table here, making it hard to predict. If Brett can keep his head and remember his rules, I think he will edge it, which, in turn, means Andy will win.

Prediction: Andy wins 60-50.

Side note here – Andy has pledged to bring a full tactical squad to each of his league games, making him a hero to me.

David V Joel – Search Destroy/The Ritual/Chilling Raid

Our first mirror match, Primarch vs. Clone Primarch, stench vs. pestilence.

This is the mission where you can create nearly infinite objectives, and Death Guard also get their sticky and contagion from them, so this is going to be super disease-y. The -1 save doesn’t seem super effective into each other, and neither does the -1ws/bs, due to the prevalence of invulns and lethals. Would this be a good time to use the much-maligned -1oc? Am I an idiot? Maybe, just maybe.

I can see these lists being nearly identical – Mortarion, PBCs, and then, who gives a shit about the rest. Turn 1 could be pretty important here, depending on the amount of transports on the board, and wanting to get out, creating stinky objectives.

Prediction: Whomever gets turn 1.

Luke(LoV) V Phil (CSM) – Dawn of War/Scorched Earth/Hidden Supplies

I don’t know shit about Votann so the list is gonna be a bunch of hardy, shooty space dwarves whatever he does. Phil’s, on the other hand, could be bloody anything. I know he is partial to a Slaaneshi Greater Daemon which, despite being tough, I think will get immediately murdered.

Forgefiends like to eat Votann for breakfast so those could be dangerous for Luke – like really scary. On the other hand Land Fortresses eat anything for breakfast so that is a bit scary and not sure CSM have a super obvious answer for its toughness if Luke uses it well.

Phil will likely have more units in play by a decent margin so maybe going around burning all the objectives is a good way of doing things but, honestly, I have no idea how to play Scorched Earth well.

Prediction: Luke win 70-50
