AoS League Round 2: Magic 8 ball malfunction

Another month in the AoS league has passed, and another horrible set of predictions from yours truly, let’s recap!

Alden (LRL) vs Kyle (Skaven)

Prediction - Alden win 36-32

Result - Alden win 39-12

It was Kyle’s turn this time for a rite-of-passage-bumming by Alden (but with lovely homemade salted biscuits courtesy of Lisa) and by recent standards he did a solid job.

Stopping Alden scoring 40+ points is a moral victory, the rats were skewered and are added to the vast pile of corpses created thus far by the T-posing menace.

Craig (FEC) vs Lauren (Sylvaneth)

Prediction - Lauren wins 34-32

Result - Lauren wins 38-35

I’ll pat myself on the back here for a super close prediction, though I had planned to play a wild card that I never ended up doing which might have helped my chances here in hindsight as extra knights might have helped chasing down those ruddy trees.

This was a ‘nearly’ match for me, Alarielle down to 1 wound on turn 1, before leaving to heal, then I was denied slay the entourage by a single wound after Ushoran rolled three 1s to wound (needing 2s) which cost me 4 points.

Ultimately I couldn’t prevent the teleporting trees which were able to chip away picking up extra border objectives which with my tactic whiff helped Lauren to a win. 

Jake (FEC) vs Billie (Idoneth)

Prediction - Jake wins 34-28

Result - Jake wins 41-31

A very high scoring primary game here for both players, with only 4 tactics scored between them in Billie’s first outing in the league with her beautiful sea elves.

Jake is flying the flag for the Flesh Eaters so far in the league with 2 wins from 2 now and Billie is showing she can compete straight away. A very well natured game which both players were happy with the result of, though Jake is now threatening to unleash 4 Bloodthirsters…

Chris (Sylvaneth) vs Aiden (Stormcast)

Prediction - Aiden wins 32-28

Result - Chris wins 40-10 (no result)

Nothing much to say here, cheeky free win for Chris

Tom (Stormcast) vs Callum (Gitz)

Prediction - Draw 26-26

Result - Callum wins 37-9

Spectacularly poor from me here, I predicted this to be the unstoppable force meets the immovable object, but it ended up with Tom shell shocked by trolls.

Callum scored an early double turn and trapped Tom’s dragon twins in his deployment zone, becoming unable to escape due to the size of their massive bases. Karazai halving the trolls attacks wasn’t enough to stop his dragon buddies getting suffocated by the Gitz.

Pete (Fyreslayers) vs Joe (Maggotkin)

Prediction - Pete wins 34-28

Result - Joe wins 39-28

I was pretty close on the score here, the only issue being the wrong winner!

This was a fairly spectacular game and Joe was delighted to have gotten one over his nemesis Gotrek who managed to kill the Glotkin no trouble, but then died to the wound to deny Pete a do not waver. Joe also managed to deny a take their land with a crafty counter-charge to claim a solid victory.

Matt (CoS) vs Dickie (Skaven)

Prediction - Matt wins 40-32

Result - Matt wins 42-18

Not quite as close as I predicted in this game which seems to have been won by fusiliers pumping rats full of lead. Dickie did predict that they would cause him trouble but in practice decided not to focus on them, resulting in the menagerie getting shot off the board (apparently averaging 16 wounds caused each volley). Brutal!

Leo (Big WAAAAGH) vs Mike (Stormcast)

Prediction - Mike wins 40-30

Result - Mike wins 47-7

Last but not least, the bumming of the week award goes to this game which led to Leo offering his Orruks for sale having rolled snake eyes for his first spell and it continued from there. I predicted Leo to have his best game yet, maybe next round eh!
